Títol: Creation of the Laboratory of Applied Bioacoustics (LAB). Development of underwater acoustic technology to assess noise pollution in the ocean
Investigador Principal: Michel André & Andreu Català
Resum: 1. Defining and quantifying the added average power spectrum and spatio-temporal variability of acoustic pollution from different sources and the resulting changes in the marine environment; 2. Analysing acoustic pollution related lesions in the cetacean inner ear structures against non-anthropogenic lesions and associated general pathological findings to estimate the correlation level between known acoustic sources and acoustic trauma; 3. Modelling the cetacean bio-sonar intrinsic mechanism as a bio-indicator of the tolerance acoustic threshold of the oceans; 4. Developing new technologies to allow industrial objectives to be reached without compromising the conservation of the marine habitat. WACS, Whale Anti-Collision System and Portable Auditory Evoked Potentials Acquisition System. 5. Establishing a rigorous scientific basis to assess the conservation of marine biodiversity and to help implement national and European policies on marine noise pollution.
